What Remains: E. Fuller

What Remains

is our essence

when those we love

no longer have our presence

We leave our attitudes biases

and our values like latent fingerprints

We leave scars

despite our best intents

We take breath for granted

until we watch beloveds gasp

and utter last words with guttural rasps

We feel invincible

before experience makes us mortal again

and bodies fail

heroes and villains within

We leave our talents and traits

along with our agreements and debates

Hopefully we inspire love

memories recall

when back to stardust molecules we fall
