Over the Christmas and New Year Holidays, my barber traveled to Jamaica to spend the last few weeks of 2017 doing some maintenance and upkeep of a home he owns. In conversation, I eluded to the fact that I would be here in these United of States looking unkempt while he would lay on a beach looking at beautiful women kissed by the Sun. He assured me that it was not a trip for leisure.
Read MoreI've been meditating consistently for the past four months. Typically first thing when I wake, then an afternoon quickie and then to block out the noise on the bus ride home. On average I meditate about 30 minutes per day, while this has helped in areas such as focus, concentration and encouragement for a healthier life – it has also helped me to become more self-aware.
The opportunity withself-awareness has been following a code of intelligent discourse. Today provided several opportunities. Starting with my workout at the YMCA, driving Brian to school, grabbing coffee, the bus ride to work and work itself.
Gyoza; Japanese style dumplings stuffed with chicken + pork, served steamed. Room 112 where the players dwell.
I taste them.

I recently started using Proton Mail, it provides end-to-end encrypted email through a web interface and mobile app. It will replace all other clients for me and I’ve started to delete my footprint(s) on Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail – In that process I came across my responses to a series Sunny did for her blog where she asked
I’ve been a member at the Stratford Richardson YMCA since it opened its doors in 2007. Over the past 52 weeks, I have been in there no less than three times per week. Previously I’ve commented on co-workers whom I share space with.
& although we have worked on the same floor for more than three years they have never parted their lips to say hello, offer a well wish, greeting or a salutation. The same is true for a few of the faces I see at the YMCA – Faces I’ve seen no less than three times per week for the past 52 weeks.
Read MoreI am no longer a fan of small talk. I’ve always been on the edge of understanding its importance but my experience over the past year has pushed me over. All the way over.
Read MoreSeeing; over consuming beyond a scope that is necessary.
Hearing; water rushing in, panic in their voices
Tasting; salt water and dirt
Touching; personal device screens – iPad, iPhone… swiping up, down, left, right
Still over consuming,
Feeling; empty
Read MoreI think about Dorian, Aaron, Geneva & Brian concerning style and appearance, for the most part they tend to do their own thing. Never “all in” with trends or name brands. Except for Brian and that fauxhawk they all developed their own style and defined their own value system, not conforming to the pressures of adolescence.
Read MoreAt age five my family moved into the home my parents own today. We had a dog, he had his own house outside. Only time I remember him coming inside was during a snow storm. I grew up in Virginia so I’m not speaking of regular, two hour school delay snow, because even then he was outside in his dog house. This was a storm with frigid temperatures and the only time I remember him coming inside...
Read MoreI’ve been reminded a few times this week personally, professionally and socially that with the passage of time we tend to hold onto images and thoughts from the past. Similar to the way I look in the mirror (now) at age 46 but somehow see my 26 year old self.

This weekend there were three fantastic moments where time seemingly stood still, allowing me to store them into a mental rolodex.
The Harvey B. Gant Center opened four new exhibitions over the weekend. I know, but I am unable to communicate why art fills us with emotion, I’ve tried to explain but apparently I’ve said it badly.
Read More"Panic dwindled into jitters into detached fascination. It was just a show. The longer I watched the less I felt. Events coupled, cavorted, and vanished, emotion hanging in mid air before my lemur eyes like a thin shred of homeless ectoplasm. It was cool. It was like drowning in syrup."
Read MoreEvery month this year has provided a theme, not one that I choose but one that has a hold on everyday life. A theme that plays in all aspirations; love, career, wealth, children, health, education. This month’s theme has been happiness. I’ve shared that I’ve become stagnant with the work that I do and the universal response has been “What is it that you want to do? What will make you happy?”
Those are the right question(s) and I’ve started trying to figure them out.
